Coating

Plastic coating

Surface coating of transparent plastic is an important work step for reinforcing and preserving the material’s positive characteristics. KIRSCH Kunststofftechnik is a leading provider of various plastic coating processes for flat plates and pre-formed parts.

Get the best out of your products with plastic coatings

A final coating of your plastic products reinforces the existing positive characteristics of your product. It increases the material’s resistance to abrasion and chemicals and provides additional UV protection. The finishing can also include additional properties such as an anti-fog effect.

Plastic coating: clean and precise

To ensure the high quality of our work, plastic coating always takes place in our in-house clean rooms. The high degree of machine automation not only contributes to a clean result but also enables us to ensure high process reliability for our customers.

TWO SYSTEMS –
NUMEROUS AREAS OF APPLICATION

Plastic coating is performed using either thermal or UV-curable coating systems. Both methods ensure that our plastic products are protected and preserve or even enhance the visual appearance of the components. Your customers will notice and come to appreciate this during everyday use too, no matter whether it’s in the automobile, machine construction or medical technology industry.

Plastic coating using thermally curable coating systems

In thermally curable coating systems, a thin layer of paint is applied all over the product in the clean room. This process is advantageous due to the fact that the resulting rinse effect removes any remaining dust particles.

For this process, we exclusively use standard, scratch-resistant coating systems such as PHC-587 C, AS 4000, AS 4700 and XH-100 P and others to coat polycarbonate (PC), PMMA and other plastics.

PLASTIC COATING USING UV-CURABLE COATING SYSTEMS

For plastics coated using a UV-curable coating system, the paint is also applied using a flow process; for smaller components we also use a spraying process. The finished coated components are then passed through a heat channel before curing in the UV system.

During the curing process, an inert gas such as nitrogen can be fed into the UV system. Unlike traditional coating methods, this process helps to reinforce the positive paint characteristics.
